PDD-NOS stands for Pervasive Development Disorder Not Otherwise Specified. PDD-NOS is a kind of residual group within the Autistic Spectrum. When someone clearly shows autistic problems but they can not be placed under one of the other denominators (Classical Autism, Asperger and McDD) and no other problems might cause this, such as Rett syndrome, a person gets diagnosed with PDD-NOS.
Because PDD-NOS is a residual group, there are no criteria that should satisfy anyone. But there are guidelines that give guidance for a diagnosis. A clear disadvantage or limitation in social interaction, poor (non-) verbal communication and / or stereotyped behaviors and interests.
PDD-NOS has many overlaps with ADHD and ADD. Thus, hyperactivity and poor concentration can be detected in someone with PDD-NOS. The difference with ADD and ADHD is the cause of these characteristics.
Someone with PDD-NOS generally has a normal IQ. Occasionally it happens that someone with PDD-NOS a lower or a higher IQ.
