Attention Defecit Hyperactivity Disorder en Attention Defecit Disorder used to be the same disorder. That is because ADHD has multiple types.
The first type, until the DSM-IV became the standard, there was the type ADHD-I. The I stands for Inattentive. This ADHD type showed itself in difficulty with keeping attention to the work. Persons with ADHD-I are "dreamy" types. People with ADD will probably recognise themselfs in this. That is because ADHD-I and ADD are the same disorder. ADHD-I is the old name for it.
The second type is ADHD-H. The H there stands for hyperactivity. This type shows itself mainly by hyperactivity and impulsiveness.
The last type is ADHD-C. The C stands for combined. The difficulty keeping attention to the work is combined with hyperactivity. This type is the most common type.

Recent study has shown that AD(H)D and ASD overlap each other. Because of that people with PDD-NOS and MCDD are offten hyperactive and have difficulty keeping their attention to the work. People with Aspergers more offten have ADD-like symptoms.
Untill a few years ago you could only get 1 diagnosis at a time. You ether had an ASD disorder, or you had ADHD or ADD. Only seldom someone would get a double diagnosis. Nowadays that has changed. Today it is normal for someone with ASD to get an ADHD or ADD diagnosis. The benefit of this is that you can get exta help for this.
At may 12th 2010 mrs. H.K. Gomarus published her findings from aher study. The goal of the study whas to show the difference in thinking between people with ADHD and PDD-NOS. Usualy it is quite diffucult to show the differences between these two disorders. What mrs Gomarus wanted was to find out wether or not this difference really exists in the brain. To that end she let a group of people with ADHD, a group with PDD-NOS and a group of people with no disorder at all take some computer tasks. These people were connected to an EEG device. This is a device that registers brain activity.
After the test the results were compared. The results showed a considerable difference in time that people with ADHD or PDD-NOS, oposed to the people without disorder, needed to complete the task. But, when the results of the ADHD and PDD-NOS groups were compared to each other there was no difference at all. This confimed the beliefs of the psychiatric world.
